Despite their crystal clean appearance, most swimming pools are hiding a dirty secret. When used by various individuals on a daily basis, bacteria can build up in the water and it can be hazardous to humans. Whether it is a public swimming baths or a home pool, chlorine/Bromine or other forms of sanitation should be added to the water in the right quantities to kill any bacteria that may be present. But where can pool owners buy these swimming pool chemicals? Well the answer is simple; there are internet based retailers that supply a wide selection of products that are necessary to maintain any pool, Spa or Hot-Tub.

One such online retailer specialises in pool maintenance and cleaning equipment. Amongst their range of products pool owners can purchase pool cleaners, chemicals, covers, pool games and other accessories.

They currently stock two brands of swimming pool chemicals, Fi-Clor and Swimfresh, both are highly regarded brands that are tested thoroughly for optimum safety. The chemicals are broken down into categories such as prevention and cure, chlorine, water balance and bromine. As well as chemical cleaners, this specialist also supplies other equipment that can be used to clean the pool manually. Items include leaf nets, brushes and vacuums.

Of course, some pool owners may feel uncomfortable adding chemicals to water that their family is going to swim in. This retailer has taken this into consideration and they have numerous branded guides available as downloadable PDF’s on their website. The documents explain how to use and store the products safely and answer multiple questions relating to the chemicals.

Purchasing products online is incredibly simple, just add the items to the shopping basket and proceed to the checkout. Delivery is free for all orders over £60.00 within mainland UK and the retailer accepts a variety of universal payment methods such as, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Solo, Switch and PayPal.

If in doubt about how to use any of the swimming pool chemicals sold by this online retailer, they encourage their customers to contact a member of their friendly team for further support. They can be contacted via their online contact form or by calling them between 9am and 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Training for the swim portion of a triathlon can be the same as training for a pool meet but again its not. You can swim lap after lap with some fast intervals included and do well. You also need to build a good aerobic base, because most triathlon swims are one mile or so. If you’re like me, this aerobic base will also help your running.

What can you do to improve your aerobic base if you only have a few days a week to get to a pool? You need to maximize your time the best you can. Maybe you can use one day as a long and slow day. Just plan on swimming a longer distance than the distance of your next triathlon. Swimming past the distance will not only prepare you physically but mentally as well.

If you don’t have the time to spend for a lot of swimming, try some tricks to help improve your strength while you’re in the pool. After swimming some laps using normal freestyle method, do some laps with you hand clinched into a fist. This will make you use the surface of your arms to propel you through the water and you will exert more energy. When you open your hand again to swim you will defiantly feel how much the open hand helps.

Get yourself a set of paddles to swim with. The benefit of using paddles is that they increase the surface area that your hands must pull through thus increasing resistance on your arms. This is a good way to strengthen your arms as you swim. You will have to get used to the different feel you get from the paddles and they take a little to get used to, but they do help.

Make the most of what little time you have in the pool each week so you can gain the most benefit. If you feel tired when you get to the pool because you have not recovered from a run or bike ride take it easy. If the swim is your weak event maybe you should back off on the others till you can improve your swim.

If you are having problems breathing while swimming the free style, what is it you could be doing wrong? Learning the proper technique for breathing does take some practice so if you are new to the freestyle don’t be disappointed you are having some trouble.

If you’re breathing wrong you may be swallowing water and choking, both of which make for an unpleasant swim. If you are not getting enough air into your lungs the oxygen will not be getting into your blood system and you will be starving for oxygen. When this starts to happen your performance drops off.

How do you breathe correctly when swimming the freestyle? First thing is it is important to relax. As you are stroking with your arms your body should be rolling side to side along the axis of your spin. This roll should be enough that you can turn your head as your arm comes up. Your face should be turned just enough that your mouth clears the water.

Now, while your mouth is out of the water take in a good breath of air. When you bring your face back into the water start to exhale slowly, do not hold your breath. This way when you come up to breathe again you would have expelled the air. You need to learn to breath as normal as possible and not hold your breath, this is where relaxing can really help.

Learn to breathe on both sides of your body. One good thing about doing this is you may find you breath better this way and another is you can prevent an imbalance in your muscles from breathing to only one side all the time. Practice your breathing so it becomes natural to you, this way you barely think about it any more while swimming.

What’s the secret to swimming faster? It may look like there is some secret technique to faster swimming but there really isn’t. Swimmers have been getting faster every year due to better training, improved techniques, nutrition and even suits they wear. Coach’s and swimmers alike just keep trying new things and pushing the limits and finding ways to keep shaving fractions of a second off their times.

A fraction of a second does not sound like much but it could be enough to win a race. When you are at the elite level you want that little bit of extra speed and more. So if you are a swimmer on a school team, club or compete on a recreational level, you too can use the same methods the elite use to go faster.

Work on your technique, this can save you valuable time during a race. Learn to swim like your body is longer than it really is so you slide through the water more easily. Perfect the arm stroke so you can get the maximum pull with each hand to give you the best forward propulsion. Relax while you swim, don’t be tense because this will actually slow you down.

Even your mental capacity can affect how you swim. Learn to think like a winner and you can train yourself to be more positive about your abilities. Try visualization techniques to see yourself being successful at swimming. Improve your diet so you are healthier. If you are not eating healthy food you are not providing your body the best nutrition it deserves to give you the best performance.

When we swim there are forces that are out of our control that we must contend with in the hopes of swimming faster. It doesn’t matter if you are in the pool or the open water, we must deal with these forces. The drag that is created by the water on our bodies is one of the main obstacles we must deal with and finding a way to reduce this drag makes a difference in how fast we can swim. So, how do we reduce drag while swimming?

Being water is so much denser than air we also have to fight this resistance. When the water flows along our bodies it tries to cling to anything it can grab onto, this is drag and reducing the effect of this drag will help us slide through the water more easily. Not only is drag a problem but we also have to deal with the turbulence of the water. If swimming in a pool with others, the surface of the water gets choppy which itself can slow you down a little as you plow through the chop.

Swimmers have been trying to reduce this drag for many years. Some of the things done are shaving body hair to reduce drag. Wearing swim caps and shaving the head are also popular. New style full-body suits are now used to reduce drag. The fabric has a pattern that is supposed to crate pressure differences which in turn help you slide through the water easier.

Tests have shown that these suits give the best benefit when doing a glide such as pushing off the wall after a turn. The suit seems to loose its benefits while actively swimming because of the water surface turbulence. There is lots of information out there about the effects of drag on the body while swimming, and reducing this drag to get an edge has been something that all swimmers have been thinking about.
